Overcoming Time Management Challenges: The Importance of Time Management

I’m going to share a story in the Bible which has three principles. Each one is vital to your success. I’m going to tell you a story when I was in a similar position to you. And I’m going to mention one of my favourite movies. This movie is so relevant to this topic, I’ll talk about it later.

Let’s begin with the story. As a Bible teacher, the more Bible teaching content I make, the more successful I am. And the more I help you reach your goals that glorify God.

Right now, I record videos on topics like this, and then send them to an editor, who makes it a good experience for you to watch.

He saves me hours on editing, and also hundreds of hours not trying to learn to edit to get anywhere near his level. This way, I can spend more time doing the things I’m created to do, so I can serve the people I’m created to serve.

My Journey with Video Editing

Things were not always this way. Almost 15 years ago, I started making videos for my previous business. In the end, I got an editor. For about 18 months, we worked together and our process was crazy. At least crazy for me. I would record a video. I had the expertise, but bear in mind, this was the first time for me making content.

I would then open the raw recording file and a Word document. I would then watch through the raw footage and write down a brief of everything I wanted done.

I would say things like, cut at this exact moment, add a like, subscribe, share animation at this point in the video. Cut out this mistake now and give a line by line edit file. And if you’ve ever done anything close to this, you know this takes a long time.

The video would be about 10-15 minutes on average, but the brief would take at least a couple of hours. I would then send the raw footage and the editing brief to my editor.

The Turning Point In My Time Management

A few days later, he would send me the first draft edit. Then, you know what happened next right? 🙂

I’d watch the video and write up another brief. Even recounting this story to you is exhausting.

Making changes after the problem is expected. But this is much more exhausting when you’ve already done full on brief before any editing is done.

Thinking back to those days, I can remember how exhausting it was. And with this sort of time on making videos, I don’t even know how I was able to make thousands of dollars a month. This went on for 18 months. But as you do, I would moan and moan about how long this process took to make videos.

One of my close friends would hear most of my complaints. He’s very skilled at setting up processes, management, and leadership. He asked me to explain my current process. As he heard what I was doing, he came up with an idea. This was a genius idea 💡 , but I didn’t realize it at the time.

He said, instead of writing out the brief with the raw footage, do something different.

Are you ready for the genius idea?

Send the raw footage and let him edit it by himself.

Embracing Change

Petrified is an understatement. I’m not even going to lie. I thought, no one could edit it exactly how I want it. No one could understand my message without instructions. I didn’t even want to get my hopes up to only get let down and feel demoralized, so I never spoke to my editor.

Looking back, this was overkill. Micro-management at its finest. I’m surprised he edited my videos for this long. And it was very foolish of me to think someone trained, & active in the arena, would not only be as good, but better than me.

I didn’t take the advice right away.

For a few more months, I trudged along hoping things would get better. I’d somehow get more time, but things didn’t change. I kept complaining to those who would hear me.

Over this period, the same friend would suggest the same thing. And on one occasion months later, he said it again. He said, ask your editor…

“If I give you my video footage, can you edit it without my brief the way I like?”

At this point, I was exhausted and thought, what do I have to lose? I asked him. He said,

“Yes, I can do it.”

The Moment of Truth

Of course, him saying yes made me more afraid. But at this point, I gathered enough courage to send my next video to him without any brief.

A few days later, he sent me the first draft. When I tell you I was petrified to press play, I was afraid. I remember saying to my wife,

He sent the video, I don’t want to watch it.”

She was like, “Put it on and see how it looks. Once you see it, you then know what to do next.

I went back to my laptop, sat down, swallowed the saliva that had formed in my throat, took a deep breath, and pressed play.

I was looking for the major problems, the big mistakes. But after about 45 seconds, I started smiling. And then, I started laughing. It was good.

It was like I had sent him a brief, although I hadn’t.

In that moment, I realized. Following my wise friend’s advice saved me hundreds of hours going forward. This freed me up to spend time creating the things I’m created to make. I started making more content, because I had more time, I made more money, and things continued to get better.

Biblical Principles of Time Management

Things always get better when you follow the wisdom of God, indirectly like then, or directly like I’m about to show you.

Back then, I didn’t understand well enough how much more precious time is than money. Wealthy people understand that time is much more valuable than money. I talked about this when I spoke about how most people in the world get programmed to be poor, but what to do to escape.

With more time, you can spend that time doing things that give you more time and money. This is why I run my business based on success secrets found in the Bible. It’s wise, in fact, to do everything in life based on the Bible.

A Biblical Story That Encourages Time Management

About a year ago, I wasn’t surprised to see a passage in the Bible so relevant to what I’m talking about now. I’m going to read a few verses and give you the three principles that will transform your life if you let it. I’m going to start reading from Acts 6:1:

“And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.”

The disciples were preaching the Word. But it got to a point where the Grecian widows were being neglected. These were the widows of the Greek-speaking Jews. They were not getting taken care of, because there were too many widows to look after.

You see, they were increasing, this is a good thing. But even good things create problems that need solutions.

Listen to what the disciples say and do though. Verse two says,

“Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples [unto them], and said, it is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.”

They said it doesn’t make sense, to stop what we’re are doing, to do something else. They are not going to stop preaching the Word, to ensure the widows get taken care of. Not because that’s bad, but because there’s another way. A better way.

Principle 1: Practicality

Listen to the better way in verse three,

“Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”

We will find someone else to handle this job, because it doesn’t make sense for us to do it. Principle #1 for getting help to free up your time is, it’s practical. It makes sense to do it.

Principle 2: Pleasure

In the next verse, it says,

“But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”

Their solution wasn’t to stop what they’re supposed to do (preaching etc), to help someone else. But to get people to solve that problem, so they can keep doing what they should keep doing.

It’s not about finding anyone either. But people who are wise, and the right people for the job. Then look at what happens when they get the help in the next two verses.

“And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Phillip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte (a Jewish convert) of Antioch: Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid [their] hands on them.”

Everyone was happy when they heard the plan because it was practical, it made sense. It solved the problem too, and it allowed the disciples to keep doing what they’re supposed to.

Principle #2 for getting help to free up your time is, it’s pleasurable.

When you get help, it feels good and makes you happy. I rejoice and thank God every time I can get help for things, and get more time to teach people the Bible. Because this is how I get to bring God most glory.

Principle 3: Profitability

Verse 7 is another key reason you should do it. It says,

And the Word of God increased, and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

When you spend time on what you’re supposed to do, and get others to help you do things you shouldn’t, you get more results. Principle #3 for getting help to free up your time is, it’s profitable.

The apostles, who were filled with the Spirit and wisdom knew time management was essential to success.

I was able to produce more content, make more money, and serve more people. The disciples were able to preach more, reach more people, and more people got saved.

This all came down to using God’s wisdom to free up time to focus on what he wants you to do. Wealthy people know, time is far greater than money. The more you live like this, the wealthier you will be.

The Movie…

A movie that shows this as clear as day is In Time. I like this film so much, because it lays it out in clear detail.

All the people who are poor have little time. All the wealthy people have an abundance of time.

Getting you to believe the lie that money is more valuable than time is only one thing the System wants you to believe. That’s why next, read my article revealing little lies you need to stop believing. Because these lies are stopping you from being legendary.

Go Win And God Bless.
