If I Had to Start Over, I’d Do These 5 Things ASAP to Make $10K a Month

If I could go back and start my business from scratch, knowing everything I know now, there are five key things I would do immediately. These aren’t just business strategies—they apply to every area of life.

The more I’ve applied them, the more success I’ve seen, not just in the short term, but in ways that have lasted and grown over time.

Some of these lessons came from painful mistakes, but they taught me what truly works.

If you’re trying to build a profitable business, these five steps will help you avoid my early struggles and fast-track your success.

The first and most important thing I’d do is get wisdom. The Bible says:

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” – Proverbs 4:7

Looking back, I realize how little wisdom I had in my early days of business. I was making thousands of dollars a month, but I still made foolish decisions because I lacked understanding.

For example, my first YouTube channel was in the financial niche—one of the highest-paying markets for YouTube ad revenue. I had a growing channel, and YouTube was ready to pay me for every single video I produced.

But what did I do? Instead of allowing ads to run on my videos, I turned them off because I didn’t want my competitors to advertise on my content. I thought I was protecting my brand, but in reality, I was blocking a huge income stream.

If I had changed my perspective, I would have realized that creating amazing content would keep people engaged no matter what ads appeared. Instead of focusing on competition, I should have focused on giving people so much value that they would stay on my channel anyway.

This is just one of many foolish mistakes I made because I lacked wisdom. Now, I know that wisdom is the foundation for success. If I had to start over, the first thing I’d do is seek wisdom relentlessly—through books, mentors, and most importantly, God’s Word.

Another mistake I made was trying to figure everything out on my own instead of learning from those who had already succeeded. I wasted years making mistakes that could have been avoided if I had just invested in mentorship and learning early on.

If you want to grow faster, find someone who has already done what you want to do and learn from them.

2. Master Marketing—Because Talent Isn’t Enough

The second thing I’d do is learn marketing as soon as possible.

Many people believe that having a great product or service is enough. But the truth is, it doesn’t matter how great your business is if no one knows about it.

In my early days, I made great products, but they didn’t sell because I didn’t know how to market them. I’d create something like “The Premium Pack”, thinking the name sounded good. But what does that even mean? Who is it for? How does it help people?

Compare that to one of my later products called “24/7 Leads“—a course on how to get leads for your business constantly. That title immediately tells people what they’re getting.

Likewise, I would also focus on mastering one platform first instead of trying to be everywhere at once. Whether it’s YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or email marketing, dominate one platform before expanding to others.

Good marketing draws people in, while bad marketing confuses them and pushes them away. Share on X

If I had started with marketing knowledge, I would have grown much faster. Today, I realize that the best marketers win, not just the best products.

The third lesson I’d implement immediately is simplification.

When I started, I over-complicated my business. My content, my products, and my marketing were too complex, making it hard for people to engage with what I offered.

Look at how Jesus taught. He used simple stories about things people understood—sheep, farmers, money, and daily life. Even a child could understand His message.

If I had simplified my content, my offers, and my messaging from the start, I would have made way more money in less time. Simplicity sells.

Some practical ways to simplify:

  • Make your product names clear and direct (e.g., “24/7 Leads” instead of “The Premium Pack”).
  • Speak in everyday language (avoid complex jargon).
  • Break down your content into small, digestible steps.

If people don’t quickly understand what you offer, they won’t buy. The easier you make it, the more success you’ll have. People buy when the decision is easy. If your sales process is complicated, they’ll walk away.

4. Sell the Product Before Building It

This one took me years to learn, but it would have saved me so much time and frustration:

Sell the product before you create it.

In my first business, I spent weeks and months creating a product, only to launch it and realize… no one wanted it.

That failure hurt, and I felt like my work was wasted. But later, I learned a smarter way:

  1. Ask your audience what they need.
  2. Pre-sell the product to gauge demand.
  3. Build it only after you know people will buy it.

This ensures that you only create what people actually want.

My most profitable product in my first business was created first. But it took so much additional work on the backend to sell it.

I would saved so much time if I sold it first. And then made it after.

The final and most fulfilling lesson is this: Be who God created you to be.

In my first business, I struggled internally because I felt like I had to suppress parts of who I was. I was a Bible teacher, yet I hesitated to bring my faith into my business.

I worried that talking about God and Biblical principles might push people away. But over time, I realized that holding back my true self was actually hurting my business.

Now, I openly teach how to build a business using Biblical wisdom, and it has only helped me grow.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

If I had to start over, I wouldn’t waste time hiding my faith or trying to fit into someone else’s mold. Instead, I’d fully embrace who God made me to be, because that’s where true joy, fulfillment, and lasting success come from.

The 5 Steps to Making $10K/Month Faster

If I had to start over today, these are the five things I’d do immediately:

  • Get wisdom – Seek God’s guidance and learn from experience.
  • Master marketing – You can’t succeed if no one knows you exist.
  • Simplify everything – Make it easy for people to understand and buy.
  • Sell before you build – Validate ideas before spending time creating.
  • Be yourself – Your greatest success will come when you embrace who God made you to be.

These five things would have cut years off my learning curve and helped me reach $10K/month much faster.

These lessons changed everything for me, and I hope they help you too. If you want to learn how to sell without feeling pushy or slimy, I highly recommend reading this article about ethical selling and faith-based business principles.
