How to Overcome Fear Every Time!

I want to show you how to overcome fear every time. Because when you start doing this, you will be so much more powerful. This is part of a training I did where I shared 7 steps to success (this was #4).

What is Fear?

Fear is a feeling that can cripple you. And keep you from reaching your goals. We all experience fear at some point in our lives. And honestly speaking, we all deal with fear on a daily basis. The difference I began to discover in my own life was startling! I was so afraid in certain situations, my body (as if in auto-pilot) would react in fear, without even processing it as a new situation in real time.

This showed me how dangerous fear can be. And I started to think more about areas in my life, fear was dictating my decisions on auto-pilot.

Fear comes in different types of forms. And some of the most common fears are:

  1. Fear of public speaking (glossophobia)
  2. Fear of the dark (nyctophobia)
  3. Fear of failure (atychiphobia)
  4. Fear of rejection (in relationships) (philophobia)
  5. Fear of death (thanatophobia)
  6. Fear of social situations (social phobia)

Some other notable fears are the fear of the future (which I spoke about recently as a bonus step to success here). Or what I call “Unknownbia” (fear of the unknown) in one of my books.

One of the greatest things you can do to overcome fear is acknowledge it is real. And acknowledge it has influence over you.

Overcoming Fear Every Time (Introduction)

As a Christian, you can use a powerful weapon against fear. And In this article, I will share how I have started to overcome fear more often by doing this one thing in the Bible.

How to Overcome Fear: Run to God Immediately

How to Overcome Fear – The Power of God’s Name

Proverbs 18:10-11 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

Proverbs 18:10-11

In this passage, we see the power of God’s Name. The Hebrew word for “Name” refers to authority, power, and Position. It is not just what someone is called, but the essence of who they are.

The Bible says the righteous run to the name of the Lord and are safe.

Notice that it doesn’t say they walk, creep, or tiptoe…But they run! When I find myself in a position where I’m failing mentally, physically, Spiritually or socially, I make it a habit (more and more each day) to run to God’s name.

If you want to overcome your fear, you need to move rapidly. And imagine every single time you have doubts and worries, you were running to God’s name. You ran to what God’s Word said about the specific topic you are afraid of. To the place of protection, where you can find safety.

Trusting in God’s Word

You need to trust in God’s Word, because it’s unchanging. No matter what happens, what God says in His Word has to come to pass. So when you are afraid, you need to speak verses of power over your life.

Conquering Fear in Various Encounters

I mentioned earlier I have been afraid in so many different circumstances.

I’ve been afraid of:

  1. How I’m going to pay a bill
  2. Having a tough conversation
  3. Teaching on a specific topic
  4. Whether I am good enough to do a task
  5. And so much more

In these scenarios I run to God’s Name. Why? Because we move and change all the time. But God is immoveable! And this means we can bank on what he says.

So I want to think the things God wants me to think. And I want to do the things God wants me to do. Or look the way God wants me to look. And engage with others the way he wants me to behave.

So like I’ve been saying…There is fear everyday trying to hold me back from doing those things.

And when I’m afraid, I say what God says, so I can think what God wants me to think. So I can do what HeGod wants me to do.

An Example of How I Defeat Fear Everyday

One of my favourite verses in the Bible is: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). God does not want you to think weak, or be weak. But wants you to be led by His Holy Spirit. So you need to remember whenever you are afraid, God doesn’t want you to be afraid, but powerful, loving, and wise.

Being Wise and Powerful, Not Foolish and Weak

As Christians, you should be:

  1. Wise
  2. Powerful
  3. Loving.

But the devil wants you to do the opposite.

The Devil wants you to be:

  1. Weak
  2. Hateful
  3. Foolish

Final Thoughts On 1 Verse That Can Help You Beat Your Fear

Fear is a natural feeling, but don’t let it control you. As Christians, you have the power of God’s Name, and His Word to overcome fear. When we find ourselves struggling mentally, physically, Spiritually, or socially, we need to run to God’s Name and trust in His promises.

We need to be like the verse in Timothy said…powerful, loving, and wise. And not weak, hateful, and foolish. But bare in mind, this is just 2 verses to help you battle your fears. And there are so many more you can use on a daily basis to overcome fear. So immediately start running to God and trusting in His power and authority.
