It’s not every day that three billion people, all at the same time, receive a message loud and clear about why atheism is false. That number is hard to imagine—three billion people is nearly half of the world’s population. It’s also the number of people who watch the Olympics.

While most of the attention was on the blasphemous “last supper meal” at the Olympics, another story was brewing.This story would outshine all others, and it was no joke.

The Controversy of Men in Female Boxing Is An Example Of Why Atheism Is False!

This wasn’t a satire from a show like South Park, where men beat up women for laughs. This was real. And not just one man, but two men entered the female boxing competition to fight against women. We’ll talk about the second man later, but let’s start with the first.

Meet Algeria’s Imane Khelif (pictured in red above). He was cleared to fight at the Paris Olympics, despite being recently disqualified from the female World Championships. 

The reason for the disqualification? You can probably guess: Khelif failed the gender eligibility tests. That was why no-one who knew about this was surprised when things like this happened…

A Mistaken Assumption

When I first heard about this, like most people, I assumed Khelif was a man trying to game the system. That might still be true, but as more information comes to light, the situation becomes clearer. Khelif has a female passport and was raised as a girl. There are even pictures of him growing up as a girl, which makes things confusing for many.

Simply put, from what we know, Khelif is a man who was raised as a woman from birth. This is why he was banned before from competing against women.

Expert Opinion on Gender Testing

Listen to Dr. Ioannis Filippatos, the former chair of the IBA medical committee, who has examined the evidence:

“I tried to say medical result, blood result, and the laboratories say that this boxer is male.”

Dr. Filippatos has seen the test results, and according to him, they conclusively show that Khelif is a man. Despite working hard to reach the Olympics, Khelif wasn’t prepared for the backlash that followed.

Mixed Emotions After the Fight

After the bout that made headlines, Khelif expressed a mix of emotions. He was joyful after the victory but deeply affected by the controversy and backlash. It wasn’t an easy experience.

Despite this, Dr. Filippatos raises an important issue:

“Our problem is that we have two blood exams with the category of male. This is the answer from the laboratory, not my answer. And this answer does not meet the criteria in the IBA technical rules.”

The Reality of Gender and Competition

Even though Khelif has a female passport and was raised as a woman, these facts don’t change the biological reality. A biological man should not be allowed to fight women. Yet, the Olympics said he could fight.

This is a rare situation where a baby is born with features from both sexes, and while it may not be clear at birth, puberty brings changes like a surge of testosterone. For a boxer like Khelif, this was a ticking time bomb, set to explode at the Olympics.

Compassion for Khelif’s Situation

Khelif’s situation is tragic, and it’s not something he asked for or could control. As far as we know, he didn’t even know about this from a young age. But when he was disqualified two years ago, questions should have been raised.

However, the truth remains: Khelif is biologically male, and that became apparent when his first Olympic bout was stopped after just 46 seconds. His Italian opponent, Angela Carini, stopped the fight, saying she had to “preserve her life.”

The Dangers of Ignoring Biology

Taking a punch from a male boxer is not the same as from a female boxer. It’s dangerous. This is why Khelif was disqualified two years ago. As Dr. Filippatos said:

“Khelif is a very good and talented boxer. But, as a doctor, I need to protect the women’s category. This is the big difference.”

A Personal Reflection

After hearing this story, I had to explain something similar to my six-year-old son. One day, my two-year-old daughter came to me crying because her brother had hit her. Now, I know there’s a significant age difference, but my eleven-year-old daughter has done the same thing before too.

This isn’t because my son is a bad boy. It’s because he’s a boy. I told him, “Son, do you ever see me hitting your mom?” He said no. “Hitting a woman is something you don’t do son.”

As I was telling him this, I couldn’t help but think of the Olympics. Why do I know this? Why do I believe this? And why should I expect my son to believe this?

The Christian Perspective

For Christians, we follow the Bible. The Bible says things like:

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it.”
—Ephesians 5:25

“Men should love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.”
—Ephesians 5:28

“For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.”
—Ephesians 5:29

Another especially relevant verse says:

“Husbands, dwell with wives according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
—1 Peter 3:7

Men are meant to protect women, not harm them. This is why we don’t send women to fight in wars or allow men to fight women in combat sports. Christians say, “God says no.”

The Atheist Worldview

But what does atheism say? Atheism reminds me of the world described in the book of Judges in the Bible, where “every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). Without God, there’s no higher authority, and everyone does what they want.

Atheism says every day is like “The Purge.” One year, men beating up women in the Olympics is wrong, and the next year, it’s perfectly fine. But rest assured, this is not the end. Things will get worse.

The Bigger Picture

I mentioned earlier there was another man in the Olympics. Like Khelif, this man also competed in the women’s boxing competition and won gold in his weight class. Yet, no atheist can definitively say what’s happening is wrong, bad, or even sad.

Their worldview is based on shifting sand, and that’s one reason we know atheism is false.

So while half the world was focused on the “last supper blasphemy,” God said, “Watch this. I’m going to show half the world why atheism is false.” And that was the biggest story of the Olympics.
