Who Will We See in Heaven?

Someone recently asked me this question:

“Who will we see in heaven physically? Are we going to see Jesus and God the Father? Or is the Father and the Holy Spirit  just one person? Are we going to see Jesus on the throne? What’s it gonna look like?”

This topic is not only exciting but also deeply significant. In my latest exploration of these questions, I turned to the Book of Revelation, particularly chapters 4 to 5, as well as chapter 22, to uncover some answers. 

Let’s dive into these passages together and reflect on what they reveal about our eternal future.

John’s Revelation of Heaven

In Revelation 4, we find John the Apostle experiencing a stunning vision of Heaven. He shares with us, 

“Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance, and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.” (Revelation 4:2-3)

As you read this, you can’t help but imagine the radiance of God seated on His throne. John’s descriptions invoke awe, painting a picture of God’s glory. Isn’t it incredible to think about seeing God in His full splendor?

As John continues, he notices twenty-four elders around the throne, dressed in white robes and wearing golden crowns (Revelation 4:4). This depiction emphasizes the worship and reverence that fills Heaven. In the midst of this glory, the Bible tells us, 

“And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. -Revelation 4:5

Here, we see the Holy Spirit represented as seven lamps, illustrating the completeness and perfection of His presence.

Understanding the Trinity

From these observations, we begin to grasp the essence of the Trinity. In previous discussions, I’ve often emphasized that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct persons, yet they exist in perfect unity. This truth becomes even clearer as we continue through Revelation.

When we reach chapter 5, we encounter a pivotal moment. John sees a scroll sealed with seven seals, and he discovers that no one is found worthy to open it. 

“Then I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.” – Revelation 5:4

I resonate with John’s despair here, as there are moments in our lives when we feel utterly hopeless, recognizing our limitations. But then, one of the elders assures John, saying, 

“Weep not; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book and to loose the seven seals thereof.” – Revelation 5:5

Like John, I feel an immense wave of relief. Jesus, the Lamb of God, is worthy! His sacrifice on the cross is what opens the door for us to approach the Father. Share on X

A Joyful Encounter with Jesus

As John continues, he sees the Lamb standing in the midst of the throne. 

“And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain.” – Revelation 5:6

In imagining that moment, I think about how personal this encounter will be. Meeting Jesus face-to-face will be a profound experience, filled with love and grace. The image of the slain Lamb not only brings comfort but symbolizes victory and redemption.

The New Jerusalem Awaits

As we transition to the final chapters, we hear about the New Jerusalem descending from Heaven. John writes, 

“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” – Revelation 22:1

This verse clearly shows the distinction and truth of the Trinity: God the Father on the throne, the Son which is the Lamb, and the Holy Spirit speaking and proceeding from the throne. 

I can’t help but imagine what it will be like—filled with joy, laughter, and the absence of pain. There will be no more sickness, sorrow, or tears, and we will dwell with God forever.

This passage paints a picture of abundance and divine beauty, reminding us that Heaven is a place of life and fulfillment.

Our Eternal Hope

As we reflect on what we will truly see in Heaven, it’s clear that our experiences will surpass anything we can currently comprehend. The blend of physical and spiritual beauty in the New Heavens and New Earth will redefine our understanding of existence.

I feel a sense of excitement and anticipation knowing we will encounter the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in perfect unity and love.
