Do Your Best, Let God Do the Rest: A Lesson from 1 Chronicles 19:8-19

In the face of life’s hardest battles, “Do your best, let God do the rest” is a powerful reminder from 1 Chronicles 19:8-19. This passage recounts the story of Joab and Israel’s army as they prepare to fight against two massive forces, one positioned in front and the other behind.

Joab’s strategy, faith, and reliance on God show us that while our best efforts are essential, ultimate victory rests in God’s hands.

Facing Life’s Hardest Moments

Are you in the middle of one of the hardest times in your life? When it feels like life is beating you up, troubles come from every direction, and just as you start to see a glimmer of light, something pulls you back down? Maybe you’re thinking,

“Others get the breaks in life, but never me.”

But today, I’m here to show you that you, too, can have a breakthrough. Today, we’re diving into a powerful Biblical story that will transform your perspective and help you see that, with faith, anything is possible.

Rediscovering Your Passion

I’ve always been passionate about reading and learning from a young age. In school, I found solace in books. This journey of learning and growth has brought me to where I am today: sharing what I’ve found to be true through the Bible.

I firmly believe that every answer you’re looking for is in there. Just as God’s Word transformed my life, it can do the same for you.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6

There’s an idea shared by Jordan Belfort in one of his seminars that has stayed with me. He would tell people to raise their hands as high as possible, and then say,

“Now, raise it a little higher.”

It was a simple exercise, but it highlighted a profound truth: we often hold back from reaching our full potential. Many people think they’re giving their best, but the truth is, there’s always a little more we can do.

Still, our best isn’t enough to reach our full potential on our own—that’s where God steps in.

Lessons from David and Joab in 1 Chronicles

The Bible story in 1 Chronicles 19 illustrates this beautifully. King David sent his army, led by Joab and his mighty men, into battle against overwhelming odds. Joab was outmatched, yet he courageously led his troops forward, knowing he could rely on God’s support.

Joab reminded his brother Abishai,

“If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you will help me; and if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to help you.”

Despite being surrounded, they trusted in God to do what was right.

“Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the Lord do what is good in His sight.” — 1 Chronicles 19:13

Overcoming Obstacles with Faith

Joab and Abishai didn’t rely solely on their own strength; they depended on God’s guidance and intervention. And in the end, they prevailed, not only because of their strength but because of their faith.

This story reminds us that obstacles and hardships will come, but with faith, determination, and God’s help, we can overcome anything.Open road with a 'start' arrow leading toward mountains and a sunset, symbolizing a journey toward success through faith, perseverance, and trusting God's guidance.Moving Forward

Life will often challenge you right after you take a positive step. You might face unexpected bills, strained relationships, or doubts, but don’t let these hold you back. Like Joab, who continued to trust God despite being outnumbered, we, too, can face our fears and rise above them.

“When you take a step forward in faith, it may seem like life pushes back. But that pushback is often the very thing that builds your endurance.”

Do Your Best and Let God Do the Rest

The story of Joab’s battle in 1 Chronicles 19 shows us that, while we must give our very best, we should let God handle what is beyond our control. Life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, but with faith, courage, and a reliance on God’s strength, we can face even the toughest obstacles.

Just as Joab trusted that God would bring victory, we too can find peace in knowing that our efforts combined with God’s grace are more than enough.
